1936 recommended airmail sample without value with an astonishing 69,38 Pengo postage fee to the Union of South Africa – unique piece

3000 €

The consignment is a part of the address label of a larger commodity sample packaging, which fortunately survived with the all the used stamps, as a fantastic stamp and postal history relic:
the fee for a sample without value in the 8th weight category, : 0.48 Pengo
Registration fee: 0.50 Pengő
Airmail surcharge: 68.40 Pengő!

It is amazing to think that someone was willing to pay this extraordinary surcharge of almost 69 Pengő for a parcel that would have been delivered for 0.48 Pengő!

It is the only one of its kind in Hungarian postal history:
1932 Madonna and Child 5P + 10P with 1933 Airmail 5P és 1936 Airmail 5P in mixed franking!

One of the greatest pieces of not only Hungarian, but international airmail postal history!

A detailed description of the shipment was published in the December 2021 issue of Bélyegvilág:
